TidyPepple implements the Getting Things Done method as leanly as possible: one-line capture, an inbox to clarify, a Next list for what you can do now, projects that organise themselves and a board for the big picture. Everything runs locally and offline; sync between devices is optional and end-to-end encrypted.
Call Bob @phone #Move !tomorrow >mon !!
| Token | Meaning | Examples |
|---|---|---|
@context | Assigns a context such as @phone or @office. Several are allowed. | @errands |
#project | Adds the task as a step to the project with that name – creating it if needed. _ stands for a space. | #Move, #New_bathroom |
!date | Sets the due date. | !today, !fri, !+3, !2026-12-24 |
>date | Defer: the task stays out of Next until that day. | >mon, >2026-10-01 |
!! | Marks the task as important. | !! |
Dates understand today, tomorrow, nextweek, weekdays (mon…sun), relative days (+3) and 2026-10-01 – German forms such as morgen or 1.10. work too. Anything the app does not understand simply stays in the title.
Quick capture is always one step away: the plus button on the phone, the c key on the desktop, or the “Quick capture” shortcut on your home screen. After Enter the field stays open so you can get several thoughts out in a row.
The syntax is optional. A plain title always works – it lands in the inbox and is clarified later.

The inbox collects everything unclarified. Next shows what you can do right now – for a project only its next step, and nothing that is waiting, scheduled or deferred. All shows every open task in collapsible sections by status or context.
Next and All remember sorting and filters separately. Search covers titles and notes; the “Important only” filter hides everything unflagged.

As soon as a task has two open steps, TidyPepple treats it as a project. You choose whether the steps are done one after another (only the first open one appears in Next) or in parallel (all of them appear). Reorder them with the arrows.
The project overview shows progress, due date and the next step of every project. If there is none, the app tells you – the most common reason projects silently stall in other systems.

Every task has one of five open statuses: Inbox, Next action, Scheduled, Waiting and Someday. On top of that come a due date, “Visible from” as a defer date, and “Waiting for” for the person you need something from.
You flag important tasks with a single flag instead of a priority scale – more levels only dilute what really matters.

On the desktop the lists become a board. Columns group by status, context, project or due date; dragging a card to another column changes exactly that property. Drag and drop works with mouse, touch and keyboard.
Shortcuts for quick hands: c captures from anywhere, j and k move the focus in the list, x checks off the focused task.

Attach images and PDFs to any task, up to 5 MB each and 200 MB in total. Photos are scaled down to 2560 pixels on the long edge first. With sync, attachments are stored encrypted on the server; otherwise they stay on the device.
On Android the installed app appears in the share menu: shared text lands in the inbox as a note. Under Settings you export all tasks as a JSON file and restore such a backup at any time.
TidyPepple is a progressive web app. Add it to the home screen or install it as a desktop app on iPhone, iPad, Android, Windows, macOS and Linux, and it starts without a network from then on. The interface only reads and writes the local database – the network is never in the way.
Updates arrive automatically; a “New version available” hint reloads on click instead of interrupting you mid-capture. Interface in English or German, three text sizes, light and dark theme following your system.

With the sync subscription your devices stay in step and your tasks are backed up in the cloud. You sign in with a link sent to your email address – no password stored with the provider. Encryption uses a passphrase only you know: every record is encrypted on the device with AES-256-GCM before it leaves, and the key is protected by your passphrase via Argon2id.
You also get a one-time recovery key. If the subscription ends, all data stays reachable: downloading keeps working, only uploading pauses, and nothing on your device is lost.
